The Velvet Jackets - The Men of Oscars 2019

The boldest style statements were made with the leading men; especially ABC’s red carpet hosts Billy Porter, star of the new break out FX series Pose, who has made a name for himself as a carpet stunner this season. Last night Porter wore a custom Christain Siriano creation of a black velvet couture dress masterpiece.

All of the luscious velvet in the room was incredibly sultry on the men’s wardrobe choice. This year, velvet came in all shades from blood red, to pale pink and several other bold colors in between.

Stephen James, lead actor in “If Beale Street Could Talk,” wore an eye-catching blood red velvet Etro suit with red silk bow tie with white Prince-like boots.

Also in a Deep Royal Blue Velvet jacket was Michael B. Jordan, styled by Ade Samuel who escorted his mother to the Oscars this year.

Oscar-winner, Mahershala Ali who won awards for best supporting actor was accompanied by his wife, Amatus Sami-Karim. Working with his longtime stylist Van Van Alonso, Ali wore a custom-made couture black brocade jacket with matching vest, black tuxedo trousers, and a Mandarin collar dress shirt all by Ermenegildo Zegna XXX. Alonso accessorized the tux with a pair of Christian Louboutin black patent leather, velvet and suede dress shoes and a Cartier watch.

Lisa Bonet and her husband Jason Momoa (Aquaman fame) wore a pale pink matching ensembles that payed homage to the recently deceased designer Karl Lagerfeld. His a pink butter velvet and hers a decorative creation of different fabrics and textures.

David Oyelowo dawned an emerald green velvet 3-pc suit with matching vest and black lapel with bow tie.
