About the Detroit Auto Show: Media & Industry Day is Thursday, January 14, running from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with news announcements, keynotes, awards and brand activations. The 2027 activation schedule has not been released yet, but the show has already confirmed that it is building around new immersive experiences and hands-on mobility activations. The 2026 program included the Mobility Global Forum, Startup Arena, Visit Detroit Interactive Experience, GM Vehicle Safety Zone and a Fashion Meets Ferrari event sponsored by Mercantile Bank and MGM Grand Detroit. Charity Preview follows on January 15, with the public show running January 16–24.

CES 2027

About CES: CES is already giving the media a look at what is coming in 2027. Waymo Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana is confirmed as a keynote speaker, while the Media Days program will include product announcements from major technology brands before the show floor opens. January 4 also brings CES Unveiled Las Vegas, where registered media can get hands-on access to products from established companies and startups.

DC FASHION WEEK
February 26–28, 2027 · Washington, D.C.
About DC Fashion Week: The Autumn/Winter 2027 edition will feature 18 houses across three evenings. The opening night on February 26 begins at Saint Yves with a fashion industry networking party. The published partner list includes DC Film Festival, Shy Magazine, National Housing Center, Maison Perrier, H Street Festival and Tequila Patrón.
Press applicants need to show current fashion-related coverage. Freelancers must provide an assignment letter on the representing organization's letterhead or have an editor verify the assignment. The application also asks for audience reach, and returning press must provide evidence of previous DC Fashion Week coverage.

WRITERS GUILD AWARDS 2027

About the Writers Guild Awards: The 79th annual awards will recognize writing across film, television, streaming, news, radio/audio and promotional categories. The January calendar gives entertainment journalists several opportunities before awards night: nominations are announced January 8; nominated screenplays will be screened January 13–22; and the Writers Guild Foundation's Beyond Words event for nominated screenwriters takes place January 25 in Beverly Hills.
The 2027 ceremony is scheduled for February 13 at both the Edison Ballroom in New York and Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Media and PR credential applications are due February 5, 2027. The New York press contact is Tiana Timmerberg; Los Angeles media inquiries go to Bob Hopkinson.

VALENTINA GONZALEZ JOINS THE NEW YORK TIMES AS COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE
Valentina Gonzalez has joined The New York Times as a Communications Associate on the Rapid Response team. She comes to the role after an unexpected career transition and will work on communications supporting and defending the journalism and products of The Times.
About The New York Times: The communications team supports one of the largest editorial operations in U.S. media, spanning The Times, The Athletic, Wirecutter, Cooking, Games, Opinion, Audio and other products. Gonzalez's Rapid Response role sits on the communications side rather than inside the newsroom, making her a useful new media-relations contact for journalists and communications professionals covering The Times.

COURTNEY MILLER NAMED VICE PRESIDENT, CBS/NAACP VENTURE AT CBS STUDIOS
Courtney Miller has moved into the role of Vice President, CBS/NAACP Venture at CBS Studios. Miller previously served as a Creative Executive with the venture, which develops scripted, unscripted and documentary programming for television and streaming platforms. (ITVT)
About the CBS/NAACP Venture: The venture's most visible project is Beyond the Gates, the first daytime soap produced through the partnership and the first daytime soap with a predominantly Black cast. CBS has renewed the series through a second season, and its current press materials show the program continuing into its third-season launch cycle. The venture also has a history of developing opportunities for Black writers and creators, including a partnership with The Black List to identify television writers telling Black stories.

Drew Saunders has started a new position as Community Insight Reporter at MLive Media Group.

Sneha Menon Desai became Editor of The Hollywood Reporter India on October 1, succeeding founding Editor Anupama Chopra, who is moving into an advisory role with RPSG Lifestyle Media. Desai has been with the publication since its launch in 2024 and previously served as Deputy Editor.
About The Hollywood Reporter India: The publication covers India's film, streaming and entertainment industries across print, digital, video and live platforms. Desai brings more than 17 years of film journalism experience and has reported from Cannes, Toronto, IIFA and the Dubai International Film Festival. About the assignment: Expedia Magazine is seeking a 1,000-word first-person narrative about visiting Disneyland Resort with a young child. This is specifically a firsthand-experience assignment, not a reported Disneyland guide.
To qualify, the writer must have visited Disneyland Resort with their own child when the child was approximately 4–8 years old, stayed at an on-site Disneyland Resort hotel, and traveled recently enough to provide detailed memories of the experience.

About the opportunity: Dow Jones is recruiting for its 2027 summer internship program, including newsroom opportunities connected to The Wall Street Journal. Current listings include reporting roles in business, finance and economics, sports reporting and production editing, giving journalism students several ways into the WSJ newsroom.
