Entertainment Weekly is Looking For A New Movies Digital Editor
Entertainment Weekly is seeking a Digital Editor - Movies to join the EW.com team. The ideal candidate is a team player who has excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, as well as a deep love and knowledge of entertainment and current events, especially related to film and major film/TV awards. This role will have an assigned shift with regular daily hours; however, some positions will require early morning, evening or weekend work as part of that ongoing assigned shift. The Digital Editor - Movies must also be willing to work occasional off-hours and weekends as necessary.
Essential Job Functions
- Assign and edit daily movie news and feature stories for digital audiences
- Prioritize and plan digital movies coverage with Digital News Director and Senior Editor, Movies
- Work with Senior Editor, FYC, to brainstorm and coordinate digital coverage for major industry awards, including Emmys and Oscars
- Report or write other news or feature stories as necessary
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelors’ degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent work experience
Experience:
- 3-7 years of experience, with at least 2 years in a digital editor role
- Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Strong knowledge of entertainment, pop culture, and the EW brand
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to identify compelling stories and think through fast-paced breaking news situations and new, fresh story ideas and angles
- Detail-oriented self-starter who is able to work independently or as part of a team
- Knowledgeable about social media and SEO
- Prior experience working with content management tools, especially WordPress
