InStyle is Looking for a Writer to Join its News Team

The ideal candidate is an experienced digital writer with a passion for celebrity/pop culture news, and an understanding of the sense of urgency and originality needed to compete in the digital media landscape. InStyle is looking for a writer who is proactive, creative, a fast worker, and super organized. Crafting daily stories in an engaging voice, with an eye toward factual accuracy, fairness, sensitivity, and inclusivity are of the utmost importance, as is the ability to sniff out unsubstantiated claims or rumors.

This role is full-time, based in our downtown Manhattan offices, and will report to InStyle’s senior news editor.

Responsibilities include:

• Quickly responding to trending celebrity and style news, writing up to 5 articles per day
• With training from our SEO lead, contributing search-optimized articles on a weekly basis
• Liaising with art and social teams to ensure stories are complete and reaching the right audience
• Fact-checking to maintain accuracy across all assignments
• Assisting editors with daily content production needs
• Attending industry events for coverage as needed
• Occasional night/weekend work (working as part of a team online during awards shows, e.g.)

Essential Job Functions

• Pitch, write, and produce trending celebrity and fashion news
• Write and optimize SEO content across topic areas
• Represent InStyle at industry events and on social/video
• Collaborate with our social, newsletter, art and SEO departments

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.

Education:
Bachelors’ degree in Journalism or related field or equivalent experience

Experience:
1-3 years of digital editorial experience

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong writing, editing, and brainstorming skills
Enthusiastic about pop-culture and style topics
An engaging writing sensibility who’s eager to learn and grow
A strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task
An idea generator who can think of new, fresh ways to package content
Experience with SEO, CMS, and Google Analytics a plus
