Pop culture/celebrity drama, dynamics, and explainers
-
Evergreen researched pop culture lists
-
Viral moments and internet culture
-
Personal finance
-
Sex & love
-

Format-wise, they welcome pitches for lists (with a minimum of 17-19 items in each list), how-to guides or explainers, super timely or trending news stories, first-person stories about trying something interesting, and more.
In each pitch, please include:
1-2 sample headlines
A short summary of the piece + any sources/research you plan to use
The length/structure you're thinking, if applicable

BUSINESS INSIDER IS LOOKING FOR LIFESTYLE PITCHES
Business Insider's Lydia Wang, their Lifestyle & Entertainment Editor is actively acquiring first-person travel essays. She seeks compelling, relatable stories with strong hooks rather than generic travel guides. They pay a starting freelance rate of about $240 for a standard 600-word piece, offering great digital reach for a byline.
In general, Business Insider loves first-person essays and listicles with strong takeaways!
If you have a story that sounds like a fit or if I have any further questions, Lydia is open to a quick video call. Due to the sheer volume of pitches that the BI team receives, she may not be able to respond to every pitch — if you don't hear back from me within three weeks, you can assume we're passing at this time.
Here is the form to fill out to pitch story ideas.
TRAVEL + LEISURE IS LOOKING FOR TRAVEL FEATURES ABOUT MISUNDERSTOOD DESTINATIONS.
Travel + Leisure is seeking narrative-driven pitches from freelancers and storytellers that shed new light on how we explore the world. They favor fresh, diverse voices, and stories that challenge assumptions, capture cultural shifts, and explore locations from a highly personal, lived perspective. Places that suffer from outdated reputations, negative travel advisories, or general traveler apathy. They want narratives that strip away stereotypes and reveal the authentic, contemporary reality of these locations.
If you want to pitch a story to us, make sure your idea adds something to the conversation. We don't want to have seen that story elsewhere. We love stories about a place that is misunderstood or changing, stories about seeing the world in a new way, and especially stories by writers or photographers who bring a new voice to the conversation about a place or topic.
Our daily news writers have a minimum number of stories they write for us. If you're interested, please email sbaral@people.inc along with recent news clips, why you're interested in becoming a daily news writer, and your expertise in the travel news space or geographic expertise for a specific destination.
For everything else, here's who you'll want to pitch:
