Meet Esquire UK's New Editor in Chief: Teo van den Broeke

Teo van den Broeke Appointed Editor-in-Chief of Esquire UK
Hearst UK has announced the appointment of Teo van den Broeke as the new Editor-in-Chief of Esquire UK. Van den Broeke, formerly the Style Director of Esquire and British GQ, brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished career in men’s fashion and lifestyle journalism to the role.
Van den Broeke’s career at Esquire spans nearly eight years, during which he held several key positions, including Associate Editor and Deputy Editor for the brand’s style guide, The Big Black Book. After departing from Esquire in 2018, he served as Style and Grooming Director at British GQ for almost five years before moving on to editorial leadership roles at Soho House, a private members’ club renowned for its influence in fashion and culture.
Katie Vanneck-Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Hearst UK, praised van den Broeke's appointment, stating:
"Teo is a hugely influential and respected voice in the world of men’s style, luxury, and culture. He has a proven track record of delivering content strategies that engage audiences across multiple platforms, and he is the perfect person to lead Esquire UK’s next chapter."
Reflecting on his new role, van den Broeke shared:
"I started reading Esquire in my teenage years, and I began my journalistic career with the brand in 2010. Returning now as Editor-in-Chief means a great deal to me. I’m proud to rejoin at such an exciting moment in Esquire’s evolution and look forward to collaborating with the talented team to shape the brand’s bright future."
Van den Broeke will officially assume his new position on April 22.
His appointment follows the departure of Alex Bilmes, who served as Editor-in-Chief from January 2011 until last month. In his final issue, Bilmes reflected on his tenure, describing it as “the most challenging, and the most rewarding, of my career,” and candidly recalling moments of both “extremely gruelling carousing” and “shameless starfuckery.”
With van den Broeke at the helm, Esquire UK is poised to continue its legacy as a leading voice in men’s fashion, lifestyle, and culture.
