I, previously, was contract on the Amazon news and deals team for Travel + Leisure, but will now be focusing on all shopping news and deals for People magazine." Meet Rod Hicks, the new Executive Editor at The St. Louis American. With four decades of experience, Hicks being a Alabama native, served as the director of ethics and diversity at the Society of Professional Journalists, where he focuses on shaping the conversation of the journalistic integrity.

Collard Green Cook-Off - Detroit MI July 26

A joyful culinary competition spotlighting unique takes on collard greens—a Southern and Black cultural staple.

Location: Chandler Park, 12831 Frankfort St., Detroit’s East Side.

Detroit is Different Community Group brings together chefs who celebrate Black heritage through food. The event is free, inclusive, and centers tradition and innovation.

Rondo Days in St. Paul July 19

Rondo Days is an annual festival held the 3rd Saturday in July in Saint Paul, Minnesota, that commemorates the Rondo neighborhood, an African-American community that was split in two by the construction of Interstate 94 in the mid-1960s. The festival has grown since its inception in 1983, by co-founders Floyd G. Smaller and Marvin R. Anderson, to become the largest African American sponsored festival in Minnesota.
