Business Insider's senior Life and Entertainment editor, Paige DiFiore, is looking for pitches “from folks who have renovated/remodeled part of their home recently and have regrets.” The rates start at $230 for about 600-700 words. “No deadline, but assignments will be spaced out.” Send pitches through the pitch form.
NEW: -Business Insider senior editor Conz Preti is looking for pitches from parents on two specific topics. She wants pitches “from parents who won't leave their kids with the grandparents anymore because of something they did (or won't do).” She also wants personal essays from foreign parents who “traveled to the US recently with your kids.” She's interested in “what [you were] surprised by.” The rate was not listed but has been previously listed at around $220 for about 700 words. Nonprofit Quarterly reshared its call for pitches for its “Supporting the Youth Climate Justice Movement” package. They specifically want “climate justice writing by movement leaders and practitioners in the field of all ages—including, and especially, youth (ages 18–35).” The rates range from $200-$500.
-Bright Wall/Dark Room is looking for pitches of “thoughtful, creative essays about the movies or characters that break your heart” for its August issue on “Heartbreak/Heartbreakers.” They are also looking for pitches of essays on Spike Lee for their September issue. “We are currently able to pay $100 (upon publication) for essays [of 2,500-4,000 words] accepted via Submittable.” Send pitches through their Submittable page. The pitch deadlines are July 7 for “Heartbreak/Heartbreakers” and July 20 for “Spike Lee.”
SFGATE is hiring for two part-time positions, including a North Coast contributing editor to cover the region and a contributing news editor to edit multiple stories per week. North Coast candidates should have at least three years of writing and editing experience, while the news editor should have at least seven years of editing experience. The salary ranges are $45,000-$50,000, and both positions require working 20 hours per week.
The National Gallery of Art is hiring a head of digital content to produce digital, video and social media content. Candidates must have a “mastery knowledge of and demonstrated experience in digital project management and digital content creation for media organizations, for nonprofits, within the visual arts, museums, or cultural organizations.” The salary range is $163,964-$191,900. The International Women's Media Foundation is accepting applications from women and nonbinary journalists for its Kari Howard Fund for Narrative Journalism. Grants will be for a maximum of $5,000. Applicants may be print journalists or print journalists leading a multi-media team. Projects reported and published in English anywhere in the world are eligible. All reporting and publishing must be completed within six months of the award of the grant. Apply by July 14.
