We will be looking for pitches to support the following content areas, where our users and business lines have indicated interest:

Travel – Please keep in mind that some travel content will need to connect to AAA’s strategic travel partners – a list of partners (hotel, car rental, air, cruise, tour, etc.) is available upon request. While specific partners do not need to be mentioned in content, in most cases any destination or product content needs to be something that can be sold by our Travel Advisors through our strategic partnerships. AAA Travel Advisors, travel experts, and leadership are available for interviews upon request to support any pitches you may have. We will begin planning our editorial calendar in August and will be directly advising writers if specific pitches have been accepted for 2025 shortly thereafter. Agreements for stories will be issued approximately three months prior to the story’s live date on AAA.com, and are issued via DocuSign. We will continue to accept new pitches at any time, but they will be accepted based on need and plan availability. We may also reach out directly to see if you are interested in specific assignments we may have. (received via email)
Richard Warnica @richardwarnica: As I settle further into my new role at the [Toronto] Star, I have an update on the kinds of pitches I'd love to see. First and foremost, I am looking for distinctive, sharply written, deeply researched *arguments* about issues that our readers care about. That includes politics, obviously. Provincial, federal and local. But it's also the life of this city. It's education, health care, how we interact with technology. The key is, it has to be an *argument.* We run a lot of freelance columns in the 600-800 word range. I'd love to see pitches for pieces in that range that key off the news, have a distinctive point of view and can be turned around fast. But! That's not all. We are also looking for longer pieces that bridge the divide between reporting and opinion. Again, they should speak to the issues this paper and its readers care about, but for these the approach can be more flexible. What they have to have is a point of view - you and your opinion have to be on the page in some way - and reporting. I am not interested, for these pieces, in the view from behind your laptop. Get out into the world. Report. Research. Tell a story filtered through your opinion. So! Please, pitch me columns with sharply made arguments about the issues in the news and reported essays with a deeply researched takes on the life and politics of this city. A special plea: If you are a novelist, poet or CNF writer who has ever been interested in doing some reporting or adding reporting to their mix, reach out. I want to chat. [rwarnica@thestar.ca]
