Introducing The 2024 August Magazine Covers We Love
Berkendy, Tony Tornado, and Lewis Hamilton Graces Cover of Volume 04 ELLE Men Brasil
Two years after the arrival of ELLE Men Brazil, a lot has changed in fashion, in the world, and in the market. A good example is Maurício Duarte, from Manaus. The first indigenous designer at São Paulo Fashion Week, he founded his namesake brand in 2019 and, next month, will debut at New York Fashion Week. Our fourth cover story also comes from his home state of Amazonas. Photographed during the Parintins Festival, the article “Oh, Boi!” features a selection of national brands dedicated to the preservation and maintenance of regional crafts and cultures.

Chloe Bailey Graces Cover of HelloBeautiful's August Issue
The moment Chloe Bailey, 26, appears on screen in Peacock’s Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, you instinctively feel there’s a mystery smoldering beneath her character’s surface as the camera lens closes in on her face. Bailey stars as Lena Mosley, a young waitress stifled between weighing who gets to live, and who gets to die. In the upcoming series, these decisions don’t always manifest literally but are threaded throughout each character’s framework. There are hustlers, politicians, entertainers, and everyday working-class people (the character lines overlap and rightfully so) fighting to coexist and define their version of the mythical “American Dream.”

Sha’Carri Richardson Graces Cover of Vogue’s August Digital Issue
Richardson remembers the moment she realized she was fast. As a kid, she was semi-hypnotized by a framed set of medals on her grandmother’s wall—prizes won by her aunt Shay Richardson when she was the family track star. Seeking to emulate her, young Sha’Carri challenged her aunt to races up the street in the South Dallas neighborhood where they lived. “We’d go from the bottom of the hill to Big Momma’s car,” Richardson explains. “And she didn’t slow down, she didn’t let me win. And I think it was in fifth grade, the day I touched the car first. And that’s when I knew.”

Photographer: Luis Alberto Rodriguez
Berlin based photographer/dancer Luis Alberto Rodriguez was born and raised in New York City. He brings his considerable background as a dancer to his work as a photographer through the exploration of the human form distorted through motion. Rodriguez puts bodies in dialogue with found materials, reshaping and repurposing them relative to their surroundings. While each photograph is created in a specific location, they lend themselves to no particular time or place. Alien objects are set in motion, up becomes down and down becomes up. Each image welcomes a sense of confusion, haunting the viewer with the recognizable turned unrecognizable, the kinetic turned magnetic.
Maluma Graces Cover of The Beauty Expert Issue
Juan Luis Londoño Arias was born in 1994 in Medellín, Colombia. The teenager, who had been training to become a professional soccer player, saw reggaeton stars like the Puerto Rican duo Wisin & Yandel hitting it big and decided that music would be his ticket to fame. His planned musical success is how he would help his family out of financial struggles. And so he asked his aunt Yudy, whose husband became his manager, for a recording session as a birthday gift. But first, a stage name worthy of reggaeton greatness. “I couldn’t be Juan Luis. Juan Luis is like an artist from the ’80s or ’90s,” he says in his documentary. “I spent like two weeks before going to the studio, thinking about the name.” And thus came the baptism of Maluma, a combination of the first two letters of his mother’s name (Marlli), father’s name (Luis), and sister’s name (Manuela). It was already there in script on his left calf, a tattoo he had gotten as a tribute to his family but without his parent’s permission. “My mom got super mad at me,” he says.

Kehlani Graces Cover of Stylecaster's Latest Issue
After releasing Crash, Kehlani’s priority was spending time in nature and getting recentered. A trip up to Oregon’s natural forests with her best friends and 5-year-old daughter, Adeya, was just what she needed. “Nobody gave a fuck about me on the road trip,” Kehlani says. “Some people recognized me when we went to a waterfall, but the whole road trip was refreshing, and it felt great to be a human after all that.” When she got back, she started making new music again. “At this point, it’s like a loop,” she says.

Teddy Riner Graces Cover of GQ France's Summer Issue
So, in the midst of this particularly auspicious wave of sponsorship, how does Teddy Riner's profile differ? At the top of his sport for nearly fifteen years, the ten-time world champion in judo (yes, we also use complicated words at GQ ) has had his share of sponsorship opportunities of all kinds. At 35, the native of Pointe-à-Pitre, Guadeloupe, wants to surround himself with relevant partners and not blur his image by simply piling up juicy contracts. At the beginning of 2024, Riner joined AM, a rather unique agency founded in 2020 that aims to weave subtle links between the worlds of sport and fashion. The company represents international athletes such as tennis players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Alexander Zverev or French rugby player Cameron Woki , and has also worked with Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc and Dutch footballer Memphis Depay. For the experienced judoka, it is a way to put things back on an even keel, to solidify long-standing partnerships, such as with the Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet, for example, and to begin to map out his post-career trajectory, between sport, fashion and entrepreneurship.

Jordan Chiles Graces Cover of Teen Vogue's July/August Issue
We saw this effortless balance of professionalism and personality in action recently at the Team USA gymnastics trials in Minneapolis, where Chiles secured her spot on the Paris Olympics team. Alongside Chiles are Simone Biles, Sunisa Lee, Jade Carey, and newcomer Hezly Rivera. Chiles is a consistent competitor, but beyond her competitive edge, she’s managed to enchant the crowd during her performances in a way not many can. “For me, the crowd hypes me up and I vibe off the crowd’s energy,” Chiles says. “When my music comes on and the crowd roars, I want to beat the mess out of my routines.” An NBC commentator said it best during trials: “If you’re not having fun yet, you’re about to. I don’t think anyone can work a crowd like Jordan Chiles.”
