Yasmin Tayag, The Atlantic's New Staff Writer
Yasmin Tayag is a science editor and writer who has written for the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Atlantic, the Guardian, Vox, Slate, Bon Appétit, and other publications. These days she write mostly about Covid, but also interested in the intersection of science with the future of food, climate change, pop culture, and racial justice.
Previously, Yasmin was the lead editor of the Medium Coronavirus Blog and founding editor of Future Human, a site about science and the future. She was also a senior editor at the health site Elemental and the tech site OneZero. Before that, she was the senior science editor at Inverse.
Yasmin grew up in Toronto, received a degree in human biology and English literature at the University of Toronto, then graduated from New York University with a Masters in biology after a stint in a developmental genetics lab, where she studied heart development in sea squirts.
