Previously, she was the features and essays editor at HelloGiggles, associate editor at Brooklyn Magazine and The L Magazine, and an online books editor and entertainment reporter for The New York Daily News.
Her first book, Rock and Roll Baby Names, was published by Gotham Books in April 2012. Her second book, South Toward Home: Travels In Southern Literature, was published by Norton in September 2015, and reviewed by The New York Times, The Oxford American, and Entertainment Weekly, among other places.
She has written for Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Bon Appetit, The New Republic, Racked, Atlas Obscura, Mental Floss, Al-Jazeera America, Salon, Slate, Bookforum, The New Yorker, Interview Magazine, The New York Times, Men's Journal, The AV Club, The Next American City, Print Magazine, Flavorwire, The Paris Review Daily, The Forward, and The Los Angeles Times, among other publications.
