Performance Content Writer

The Performance Content Writer will join a central team of writers, editors, producers, and strategists that create performance driven content across 19+ Meredith brands including People, Real Simple, Health, Shape, and Better Homes & Gardens. Our team is focused on eCommerce content and lead generation content — we are looking for four writers who will be focused on lead generation content and help grow our performance marketing revenue.

The Performance Content Writers must be passionate about writing and service journalism and knowledgeable about a variety of categories such as home improvement and services, pets, subscription-based services (online classes, etc.), fitness, pregnancy, child/senior care, meal delivery and more. We don’t expect you to be an expert in every category but there must be a willingness to research and learn. We are also open to hiring writers with a special focus in priority categories.

Experience in lead generation content is a plus although not required if there is a strong editorial background with an interest in performance marketing. These writers must be able to juggle multiple style guides and brand voices. They must be strong multitaskers who thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Functions
Accountabilities, Actions and Expected Measurable Results

  • Write performance content with a special focus on driving leads (subscriptions, purchases, sign ups, and more types of consumer conversions)
  • Identify and carry out lead generation content opportunities within home improvement and services, pets, subscription-based services (online classes, etc.), fitness, pregnancy, child/senior care, meal delivery, finance and more.
  • Use data, analytics, and SEO best practices to brainstorm and guide editorial decisions
  • Collaborate with editors across the entire Meredith portfolio, and various members of the performance content team including strategy, to increase promotion and revenue on our lead gen content
  • Work with the affiliate team to onboard new retailers/lead gen partners
  • Compile monthly reporting for your content
  • Build content in the CMS
  • Attend weekly meetings

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, Marketing, or related field

Experience:
2+ years experience as a writer for an online publisher. Experience in performance content is desired.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Must haves:

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced and matrixed organization
  • A strong writer well versed in a variety of topics/product categories; experience writing lead generation content is a plus
  • Familiar with the Meredith portfolio, and able to adapt to numerous brand voices and writing styles
  • Familiar with digital media tools such as CMS (WordPress) and Google Analytics
  • Familiar with SEO best practices
  • Comfortable with data or willing to learn

Staff Editor

The Staff Editor for the TV vertical will be responsible for coordinating closely with the Senior Editor for the vertical to coordinate digital coverage for all things TV on the site. This may include leading digital coverage of awards shows and key events, helping to develop and implement digital coverage strategy around buzzy TV shows, and managing both routine daily news and breaking news situations that arise within the vertical. We want a dynamic editor who is steeped in the entertainment industry, has far reaching contacts, is passionate about TV and knows how to find unique and compelling stories about both the shows themselves, and the personalities behind them. We need you to be a compelling storyteller, impeccable line editor and headline writer, have sound news judgement and an ability to prioritize stories as they come in from all angles. Need to be able to ideate and identify key second-beat and breakout posts on breaking and trending news stories. It’s key to have a fluent understanding of the digital landscape, including content streams, SEO and analytics, and to be meticulously organized.

Essential Job Functions

  • Finding, assigning and editing stories, writing them yourself as needed
  • Strategizing coverage for a large volume of shows, making assignments and overseeing execution
  • Collaborating with legal team on vetting of stories
  • Overseeing large scale digital event coverage like Emmy Awards
  • Strategizing and preparing for potential news moments that may happen during your shift, drawing on the editorial calendar as well as data and analytics

  • BA or BS
Experience:
  • 5+ years experience working in a high volume, digital news operation, with proven leadership experience
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven ability to work independently.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, impeccable journalistic standards and attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond quickly to breaking news and understand how to prioritize urgent vs. non urgent content.
  • An understanding of SEO and analytics.
  • An ability to drive traffic!
  • Passion for TV and fluency with the media landscape

Multimedia Journalist

The Multimedia Journalist enterprises and generates daily news stories. This position also cultivates and maintains news sources. In addition, the Multimedia Journalist:

  • Performs engaging stand-ups or live shots as assigned.
  • Shoots and edits news material.
  • Posts stories on station website.
Essential Job Functions
  • 40% - Enterprises, researches and writes engaging news stories.
  • 30% - Shoots and edits story materials.
  • 15% - Posts news stories to web.
  • 15% - Communicates with assignment editors, producers and other news team members.
Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum one-year prior experience in broadcast newsgathering role. Experience reporting news at a commercial television station preferred.

  • Must be computer literate and web savvy. Must possess good photography, editing, and on-air presentation skills.

Editor, Paid Products

The Editor, Paid Products is the editorial brand lead & “face” of Meredith’s membership programs. Our ideal candidate is a strong content creator who is passionate about creating premium, engaging digital content that drives subscriber acquisition, retention, and engagement.

Essential Job Functions

  • Create the content strategy for Meredith’s memberships, working closely with the GMs to ensure editorial is helping meet business goals
  • Serve as brand lead, come up to speed quickly and develop a deep understanding of the current subscriber base and audience acquisition targets.
  • Work with internal stakeholders including business leads, marketing, product, and other teams to develop and support campaigns that drive digital subscriber acquisition and revenue goals
  • Oversee editorial calendar and content mix.
  • Produce and write special packages and projects. Glean actionable insights from content metrics and educate team.
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to ideate editorial programs and franchises that both drive engaged subscribers and create meaningful acquisition opportunities for Meredith’s paid products.
  • When appropriate, work with freelance writers to assign, edit, and optimize content using best practices.

News Editor

The News Editor edits video for newscasts. Edit news, bumpers, teases, and archive tapes on a daily basis. Regular use of Avid News Cutter, Avid Media composer, Final Cut Pro.

Experience:

  • 2 years news broadcast editing
Education:
  • Bachelors in communications, broadcast production or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with non-linear editing
  • Must possess an understanding of rules of video editing
  • Ability to perform quality work under high pressure deadlines
  • Attention to detail
