People, America’s premier weekly magazine, is looking for a copy editor.
As a Copy Editor, you will:

  • Read and edit editorial copy for People print to ensure that it is accurate and grammatically correct, easy to read and understand, and written in the “People” tone.
  • Check editorial copy to ensure names, product names, prices, geographical data, etc., are factually correct.
  • Communicate regularly with copy chief to ensure smooth copy flow throughout editorial production cycle.
  • Process manuscripts, layouts, proofs, and tablet pushes in a timely manner.
  • All applicants should possess excellent copyediting and proofreading skills. It’s essential that this person is proficient in In Copy and InDesign, detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple tasks at once under steady deadline pressure, including, but not limited to, being able to collate fixes from other copy editors, writers, editors and fact-checkers simultaneously.
  • The ideal candidate must be a good communicator and able to remain calm and organized under deadline pressure. They must be able to turn pages quickly without sacrificing quality of work and negotiate changes with editor diplomatically. They must have the ability to work late (several hours past midnight) on Mondays for the magazine’s weekly close.
