Epicurious Has A New Opening For Senior Editor
It’s right in the name—Epicurious is the place for the curious cook. It’s where home cooks have looked for recipes for over 25 years, and now it’s where they come to level up in the kitchen—expanding and dialing in their cooking techniques, understanding the context of recipes from around the world, and getting a delicious dinner on the table, no matter what's in the pantry or the fridge.
Epicurious is seeking a senior editor to help shape the site and content. Strong candidates will have a sharp eye for detail, experience editing longform stories and features, and an ability to shape stories at every stage of the editing process. The Epicurious team is sharp, thoughtful, and collaborative; candidates should be excited to be part of a cohesive team and to work closely across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Generate compelling story ideas about cooking and food, including about techniques, ingredients, and traditions
- Assign, edit, and occasionally write features and packages
- Connect and develop new relationships with writers; mentor and foster talent across the Epicurious team
- Edit newsletters, commerce content, and recipe galleries
- Work across departments (eg: test kitchen, art, social) to ensure deadlines and KPIs are met
- Conceptualize how recipes and stories might live across all editorial facets of the brand (digital, print, social, podcast, video, etc), and contribute across platforms when needed
- Guide and work within the Epicurious editorial calendar to map out deadlines and content flow
- Work with audience development, social, and Epicurious leadership to adhere to and continue to hone editorial strategy
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- 6+ years editing experience, specifically within the food media space
- Sound editorial judgment and strong editing and writing skills
- Ability and interest in honing the Epicurious brand voice and working across the brand to make sure it’s consistent in all content
- Organized, detail-oriented, able to adhere to tight deadlines and balance multiple priorities and projects
- A thoughtful, inclusive approach to assigning and editing content
- Ability to communicate well with people across departments and at all levels of brand
- Proven track record of building strong working relationships with colleagues and teams across an organization, including problem-solving and decision-making ability in situations including many departments and key stakeholders
- Experience working in digital media, including familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and writing headlines
- Understanding of editorial strategy best practices, including SEO
- Experience editing stories about food, a plus
